RUSSIAN TALES TOUR
We plan to take Russian Tales on a nationwide tour.
TOWARDS A NEW MOVEMENT
Abstrakte Oper Nr. 1 by Boris Blacher and Aventures & Nouvelles Aventures by György Ligeti
Using works that combine abstract texts and movement with minimalist music, this project, influenced by the artistic movements of Bauhaus and Dada, will deconstruct both the presentation and preparation of opera within a large glass box. This will tour to art galleries in the UK and abroad.
WEINBERG
Mieczyslaw Weinberg escaped the Nazis by fleeing to Russia but his music had little opportunity to extend beyond Soviet Russia. Shostakovich was a friend and admirer. Mahogany Opera plans to produce one of his unknown operas at a Weinberg festival in Manchester in 2009.
TRYPTICH
Three Church Parables by Benjamin Britten
Following the success of Curlew River in 2006, Mahogany Opera is planning to present all three of Britten’s church parables over the space of a weekend. This will be the first time the three pieces have been performed together in this manner. The tour will visit a number of medieval churches and cathedrals around the UK.
