COLLECTIVE THINKINGS Is a new way of exploring, presenting and experiencing performance.
A Collective Thinkings involves artists of varying disciplines coming together in a creative environment to develop or experiment with a new technique or idea. This is then shared with an audience who are able to observe aspects of the creative process as well as question and respond to the work.
A Collective Thinkings might be linked to a main Mahogany Opera production and serve as a useful way of trying out certain new ideas beforehand in front of an audience. This also gives the audience a more extensive understanding of the ideas behind a production. Discussion on the website and development of ideas will continue between the time of the Collective Thinkings and the main production.
A Collective Thinkings creates a unique relationship between artist and audience by making the creative process the art itself. It will enable audiences to engage more fully with all performance art and give artists a unique creative environment in which to work.
OPERA TROUVÉ Anton Reicha, known really only for his wind quintets, was a radical composer and friend of Beethoven. He wrote nine operas, some of which were popular in his life-time but some were never performed.
This Collective Thinkings will involve artists and musicologists rediscovering these lost works and developing certain scenes with a view to performing a full production in the future.
MEDIEVAL MEDITATIONS This Collective Thinkings explores the history, techniques and
meanings behind medieval art and drama and Japanese Noh Theatre in
preparation for the Tryptich project. There will also be performances
of the first medieval opera Ordo Virtutum by Hildegard of Bingen.
ABSTRACT ADVENTURES This Collective Thinkings is a chance to explore the works that will form the Towards a New Movement project. Singers, dancers and instrumentalists will take on each other’s skills to create a unique synergy of sound, colour and movement.
